Open shifts can be left in the system for employees to apply on their own to pick up, or simply assigned later to specific employees by supervisors. Depending on the settings configuration, open shift pick-up requests can be either automatically assigned to the first employee that applies to work that shift, or such requests can be sent to the supervisor for approval.
The process of creating a new shift is almost the same as like the creation of a shift assigned to any of the employees directly. You simply find a day when you need an open shift, click on the field and enter shift details through a popup dialog.
If you want to assign your Open Shift to one of the available employees, you can either drag it and drop it with your mouse, or use the “Auto-Fill” option from the drop down next to the “Open Shifts” label.
If you want to remove any of your open shifts, you can simply click on it and select the “Delete” option or click on the “Clear Open Shifts” option from the screenshot above to clear all the available open shifts for the week.
Your employees will now see available open shifts on their “My Schedule” page once they click on the “Show Open Shifts” button.
When your employees apply to pick-up any of the available open shifts, you’ll receive a notification that you have pending requests to approve, assuming that you have email or SMS notifications enabled. Once you navigate to the Request section, you’ll be able to approve your employees’ pick-up requests.
